Dario Amodei Says the Onus Falls on AI Companies. Good. Then Act at the Source.

In a new ABC News interview, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said:

“We have to figure out how to make this technology reliably. But the onus primarily falls on us.”

He is right.

The onus does primarily fall on AI companies.

That is why waiting for government is not enough.

Government regulation matters. But if AI companies already know their tools can create serious real-world harm, they should not wait for government to force accountability.

They control the tools.

They control the accounts.

They control the outputs.

They control the restrictions.

They control the logs.

They control the downloads, exports, and release systems.

They can act now.

For AI-generated images, videos, and voices, the standard should be simple:

Create normally.

Watermark first.

KYC/AML before use.

Original stored.

Accountability attached.

My proposed framework may not be perfect. If there is a better solution, Please share and let's work together on making AI safe for everyone, not just a few.

But this must be handled at the source, not only after harm occurs, and not only after government forces action.
