Deepfake Abuse Against Kids Proves Removal After Harm Is Not Enough

The Wall Street Journal reported that AI-generated explicit deepfakes are being used as a new form of bullying among kids.

That should stop every AI CEO in their tracks.

This is not theoretical.

This is not only about celebrities.

This is not only about politics.

This is about real children, real families, real reputations, and real harm.

According to the report, these tools can create fake explicit images from a single photo, and victims are often left trying to remove the damage after it has already spread.

That is the problem.

Removal after harm is not enough.

Detection after harm is not enough.

Apologies after harm are not enough.

If AI companies know their tools can create images, videos, and voices that damage real people, then accountability must begin at the source.

For AI-generated images, videos, and voices:

Create normally.

Watermark first.

KYC/AML before use.

Original stored.

Accountability attached.

My proposed framework may not be perfect. I am certain @elonmusk and others may have even better solutions. Let’s work together to protect everyone using AI, not just a select group.

But one thing should be clear:

Children should not have to be harmed first before AI companies decide accountability matters.
